Choosing a course

There are so many choices when looking at different courses and universities; it is often hard to know where to start.

There is no one course that is right for everyone, so it is important to find the course and the university that is right for you.

You will need to research the differences between courses very carefully. Just because two courses have the same name, it doesn’t mean you will study the same things.

Before your search begins, ask yourself:

  • Do you have a career in mind that you would like to pursue after university or college?
  • Which subjects interest you most?
  • Which academic skills would you like to improve?
  • What qualifications do you already have, or will you have, before you apply?
  • Would you like to go away to University or study away from home?

These are just some of the things you need to take into consideration when looking at courses.

Getting help you with your decisions

There are lots of online resources to help you with your decisions. You may also wish to visit your local or school/college careers centre to discuss your options and make use of their resources.

A good place to start is the UCAS website.
