Electronic Engineering with Business Management

Electronic Engineering with Business Management

H6N2 BEng Bachelor of Engineering: 3 year
H6N3 BEng Bachelor of Engineering: 3 year (with a year in industry)
H6NG MEng Integrated Master of Engineering: 4 year
H6NF MEng Integrated Master of Engineering: 4 year (with a year in industry)

These courses are intended to give students a strong background in modern electronics whilst simultaneously providing specialised knowledge in the techniques of business and industrial management.

  • Engineers aim to anticipate and avoid problems that might arise in a wide range of industrial applications.
  • To overcome a problem they will usually need to collaborate as a team, work to rigid timescales and deadlines, as well as to pre-ordained design criteria and specifications.
  • The aim is to deliver the proposed solution by exploiting the existing technology as far as possible, usually while keeping within a limited budget.

In the real world of industry, advances are achieved by teams, often of a substantial size. These teams have to be directed, organised and inspired by managers, who are often engineers of considerable talent and experience. To equip our students for such roles, these courses contain a significant element of management education. This starts in the first year with some fundamental management knowledge and application through a team based project that spans the whole year and combines small team working, basic project management and electronics within a design, test and production lab environment.

Whatever the subsequent career direction of any of our graduates, they will benefit from understanding the management of both large and small organisations. Those with ambitions for leading roles in industry will find the management content particularly valuable.
