Research Assistant, Stockholm Environment Institute
Joe Simpson is a Research Assistant at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), University of York. He is a member of the Sustainable Consumption and Production team, working on the Trase and CASCADES projects. These projects focus on mapping supply chain impacts on deforestation and assessing Europe's cross-boundary climate risk exposure through trade. Joe recently collaborated with the WWF to analyse data from the WWF Carbon Footprint Calculator.
Joe holds an MChem in Chemistry from the University of York, where he specialised in atmospheric chemistry modeling. He also obtained an MSc in Sustainability and Behaviour Change from Liverpool John Moores University. During his master's research, he explored the role of trade unions and workers' organizations in facilitating a just transition to a green sustainable economy.
Joe's current research interests include evaluating the suitability of EU policies to address trans-boundary climate-related shocks to EU food supply chains and investigating the EU's external dependencies on key resources and materials. He aims to pursue a PhD at the University of York in the near future.
