Carmen Lacambra

Director of Research and Environmental Services, Grupo Laera

Carmen Lacambra is a founding partner and director of research and environmental services at Grupo Laera, a specialized consulting company headquartered in Colombia that focuses on sustainable development, finances services for SMEs, customer experience and data science for the financial sector. Carmen received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Los Andes University in Bogota, and her master's degree in Science and Management of Estuarine and Coastal Zones from the University of Hull. She earned her doctorate in Geography from the University of Cambridge where she researched the responses of tropical coastal ecosystems to extreme events, a topic that remains at the core of her research projects.  

Carmen has nearly 30 years of experience in research, design, training, and evaluation of projects in sustainable development focusing mostly on climate resilience, conservation, fisheries, coastal zone management, and mainstreaming biodiversity in risk management, urban planning, disasters risk reduction, and agriculture.  

Carmen has directed and participated in global, regional and local projects across America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, with agencies such as the Nordic Development Fund,  the Inter-American Development Bank,  The Woodrow Wilson Centre, UNEP-WCMC, The Green Climate Fund, UNDP, UN Environment, Invemar, The World Bank, The Oscar Lopes Center, Econologic, the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, York, Southampton, Javeriana, and Valencia, and several international NGOs and development agencies.

In addition, Carmen has been invited to present her work to graduate and undergraduate students at Los Andes and La Javeriana Universities in Colombia, Universidad Central de Costa Rica, Universidad de Valencia in Spain, Cambridge University and Oxford University in England, and the University of Georgetown in the USA.
