Course: The 6th Migration Summer School 2024 in Thessaloniki focuses on critical humanitarianism and the limitations posed on the migrants’ ability and even ‘right’ in the eyes of the public to express and perform parts of their identity beyond that of refugees or asylum seekers. Framing migration from the purview of human rights challenges this problematic prioritisation of ‘status’ over a more holistic approach of migrants as social entities, allows for social justice, equity and equality to emerge as a great equalizer and aligns with more recent development agendas of national and transnational configurations to firmly embed human rights in their strategies and programmes.

Who can apply: Applicants must be final year Undergraduate or Postgraduate students or PhD candidates registered on a university course in the field of migration or related Social Sciences (e.g. Law, Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Developmental Studies, Post-colonial Studies, International Political Economy, Communication Studies, Business Studies etc) and be fluent in English. Any other applicant should demonstrate a strong interest in migration related issues in order to be admitted to the programme.

Application: Apply directly to City College using the Summer School 2024 - Application form

Who's ISEP?

ISEP (International Student Exchange Programme) is a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to helping students to realise their internationalisation goals.

Where can I go with ISEP?

ISEP advertise summer programmes in several countries around the world that you can apply for independently. ISEP has a full list of ISEP summer programme destinations on their webpages.

University of York students may also apply for the ISEP Exchange programme as an additional year abroad within the specified deadlines.

How much will it cost to take part in an ISEP summer programme?

You'll be responsible for meeting the costs of the ISEP summer programme and will need to research the individual programmes for exactly what's included in the programme fee. The fee tends to include tuition, housing and health insurance, but programs may include additional benefits like meals, excursions of airport pick-up.  For 2023 ISEP have identified programmes where students can study abroad for less than $5,000, including tuition, housing, and health insurance.

For ISEP summer programmes, you may be able to apply for funding towards the cost of the independent placement. Find out more about funding through the Finance and Funding webpages.

Going on an ISEP summer programme?

Email us at to let us know if you'd like to be connected with other University of York students who may be on the same ISEP summer programme.
