Student Visa holders (formerly Tier 4 Visa holders)

Coronavirus

Online study

If you are unable to get to York for the start of Autumn Term 2021 due to travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic, international students are permitted to study remotely without a visa and in most circumstances begin your course online.

For those on Student Visas, if you are unable to arrive in the UK due to travel restrictions, there is a concession that allows online study for students outside the UK until 6 April 2022. Unfortunately online study for any other reason is not permitted under visa rules.

Graduate Route (post-study work visa)

Government has confirmed that students starting in autumn 2021 will be eligible for the Graduate Route regardless of whether they start their course remotely online or in person, so long as you enter the UK by 6 April 2022 and meet the other eligibility criteria.

Immigration advice

Complying with your visa

It is your responsibility to ensure that you comply with the conditions of your visa at all times.

Failing to comply with the conditions of your visa is a criminal offence and could result in your visa being withdrawn.

Your responsibilities include ensuring that you do not stay in the UK beyond the expiry date stated on your visa, unless you have made a renewal application. You must also adhere to the work conditions of your visa.

You should also cooperate with the University of York to ensure that it maintains its status as a sponsor of Student Visa holders. This includes meeting the detailed requirements in the terms and conditions for Student Visa holders as shown below

If you have any queries or concerns about your immigration status you should contact the Immigration Advice Service.

The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) have produced a guide to Protecting your Student status.
