Support for international students

We are a team of International Student Support Advisers, based in the Student Hub in Sally Baldwin D Block - we can help with any questions or issues that affect you as an international student at York. We can also help you find information and support that's available to all students.

Whether you need airport collection, visa advice, support around living in York, help to build your community and make the most of new opportunities, or information about finding work and what happens when you complete your studies, we are here for you.

We provide support and advice on our webpages, by email, Zoom calls, live chat and in-person (by appointment) on subjects including:

Meet us at the Information Centre at 1pm on Sunday 20 September to collect your answer sheet, team up with fellow students and start solving solving clues across Campus West.

The scavenger hunt will take between 30 - 45 minutes to complete.

Join the International Communities Team and York SU for the International Welcome Party!

On Sunday 20 September, the Roger Kirk Centre will host a night of music, dancing and good times for International Students. Enjoy live bands, games and a bar, with tons of opportunities to meet new people, relax or dance the night away. There’s space for everyone!

Doors open at 19:00. Entry is free. Come along and kick off your time at York in style!

Explore your new city with a tour of York city centre!

Our Welcome Team staff will help you get a bus from the Information Centre or you can make your own way into town to join the city tour starting at 1pm at York Minster.

You will need to pay for your own bus fare.

International Campus Tour

Join us for a tour around our beautiful campus! This guided walking tour will start on Campus West and take you through to Campus East so you can explore all of the sights and facilities that the University has to offer. The tour takes around 2 hours but you can decide if you want to join us for the full experience or choose to meet us at either our West departure point or East departure point for a shorter tour. There is a free bus between Campus West and East that you may wish to use to get to the Information Centre for the start of the tour or return to your accommodation once the tour finishes, as we will do a moderate amount of walking and standing.

For West Campus or the full tour: Meet outside the Information Centre at 1pm

For East Campus only: Meet Outside the Ron Cooke Hub at 2.30pm

Welcome to York! Join us for the International Welcome Talk, an essential one-hour session designed to help you settle in.

You'll hear from University leadership, York Students' Union Sabbatical Officers, and the International Communities team, alongside expert advice on adjusting to UK study, careers and placements, and travelling around the city.

Afterwards, stick around to meet other new students over refreshments.

Get your walking boots on and join the Postgraduate and International Communities team as we explore the University of York’s Model Solar System!

Did you know that The University has it's very own Solar System Model, featuring the Sun, the eight planets and the dwarf planet Pluto?

Tag along with our resident astronomer, Thom, for a relaxing tour of the Solar System as we gently amble the two-mile route from Campus West to Campus East, taking in some of the many sights of campus along the way.

Meet outside the York Student's Union Building on Newton Way.

Join us for a creative afternoon where you can paint a canvas to take home and enjoy an afternoon tea! This is the perfect chance to unwind after Welcome Week, create a decorative canvas for your room, and meet fellow international students over tasty cakes.
