The University of York offers places to undergraduate students at the Summer Schools below.  Note, students in the final year of their degree programme are not eligible for these opportunities.

Basic tuition fees are waived under our reciprocal exchange agreements (additional courses may not be covered). You would need to budget for international flights, accommodation, medical expenses and living expenses.

Seoul National University

SNU International Summer Institute (ISI) offers an exceptional opportunity for students to study at Korea's most prestigious university and one of the leading universities in the world. ISI offers an intensive five-week summer program led by distinguished international faculty. This programme is taught in English. This will include field trips and lectures. There will also be an opportunity for students to learn Korean and about Korean culture. The number of available fee-waived places for 2019 will be confirmed once places on full-year and semester exchange have been allocated.

Chinese University of Hong Kong (priority given to Derwent and James College students)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s International Summer School (ISS) provides you with an exceptional opportunity to combine high-quality learning with an unforgettable summer experience. While attending, students can learn and live alongside other academic achievers from a range of cultures. International students can immerse themselves in a multicultural environment and gain insights into Asian cultures, experience a unique learning environment on the green, spacious campus of CUHK outside regular term time, and enjoy the many pleasures of summer in Hong Kong – Asia’s world city. CUHK and local students can have a taste of cultural exchange with international students without going abroad. There are four places available to York students in 2019 to take part in the July or August sessions at CUHK.

Renmin University of China

Renmin University of China will provide you with an amazing opportunity to meet students from all over the world and learn about all aspects of Chinese life and culture. In 2013 the International Summer School (ISS) welcomed 300 international students and 3200 Chinese students. You will study a wide variety of courses with elite teachers and students, as well as experiencing the sights and sounds of Beijing, one of the world's most dynamic cities. Excursions include visits to The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, the Lama Temple, the Temple of Heaven...amongst many others. This is a four week programme running throughout July. There are twelve places available to York students in 2019.

National Chengchi University (Management students only)

Learn about Taiwan with an Asian and global outlook at National Chengchi University (NCCU). The International Summer School provides you with both intensive Mandarin Chinese learning and 8 Academic intensive courses in the fields of Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities, focusing on the aspects of Taiwan, China, and East Asia. In addition to the academic and language benefits, the programme also provides you with excursions to the most significant cultural and historical attractions in northern Taiwan. 

Aarhus University, Denmark

At AU Summer University you can study alongside students from Denmark and all over the world on a broad variety of courses taught in English within a range of fields including Arts, Media and Communication.  The programme takes place through July and August, with individual courses generally lasting for 3 weeks.  A diverse social programme is offered alongside the academic programme, so that you can get to know your fellow students while discovering more about Aarhus and the surrounding area.  Please note that you must check the pre-requisites for your chosen course, and should apply for courses on the Summer University which are related to your studies at York.  The number of available fee-waived places for 2019 will be confirmed once places on full-year and semester exchange have been allocated.
