The Global Opportunities Fair is the perfect event to find out all about studying, working, or volunteering abroad. Get advice from international employers, non-profits, and University departments on what programmes and bursaries you could benefit from, as well as what destinations you could spend your summer exploring.

We have a range of opportunities in Europe and depending on your department you may be able to study abroad at a partner university for a full year as part of a four-year course, or replace some or all of your second year as part of a three year programme. Talk to Centre for Global Programmes staff and returning students about the opportunities available
We have a number of links around the world which provide opportunities to spend a year studying at one of our partner institutions. Depending on your department this may involve taking an additional year abroad or studying for replacement credit. Talk to Centre for Global Programmes staff and returning students about the opportunities available. Representatives of one of our worldwide partners, Keio University and Union College, will also be on hand for you to talk to.
International Study Centres (ISCs)
Short summer courses open to York students of all disciplines and all levels of study (including postgraduates). You will travel in a group of around 20 students from York and spend around two weeks exploring a topic and visiting areas of interest. No prior knowledge of the subjects is required.
The University of York is partnering with the Academic Internship Council to offer 8-week summer internships in three locations in 2019: Tokyo, Vancouver and California. Participants will be assessed and matched to internships in a wide range of fields that correspond with their course of study and will have the opportunity to discuss their strengths, interests and professional goals. Languages For International Mobility (LFIM)
Give Languages a Go - Get a short introduction to Italian, Japanese, Korean or Spanish LFIM. Taster sessions are 20 mintues long, so you can give more than one a go! You'll also be able to find out more about where you can go and what you can do if you do/don't speak another language from the other exhibitors at the Global Opportunities Fair. A free Languages for International Mobility (LFIM) course in weeks 8 and 9 of the Summer Term 2020 is available to University of York students who register their interest in studying, working or volunteering abroad through the Centre for Global Programmes.
These offer York students global opportunities on campus such as being a paid Student Intern or Mentor, being a Buddy, attending International Conversation Afternoons and attending Intercultural workshops.
The University of York offers places to undergraduate students in their first and second years to summer schools at the following Universities: Aarhus University, Seoul National University, Remnin University of China, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (priority to Derwent and James College Students) and National Chengchi University (management students only). Come and talk to students who went in summer 2018. Staff from Renmin University Summer School will be at the fair to answer any questions you may have about their programme.
If you organise an international travel project during your studies at York you can apply for funding through our Travel Bursaries or Santander International Connections Awards to help towards the cost. Speak to us if you have been inspired by some of the other stands and want to apply for funding towards a project you’re organising in Summer 2019.

Laidlaw Research and Leadership Scheme
This scholarship combines the opportunity for students to undertake a unique research project and an innovative and accredited leadership development programme. The research project will take place over two Summer periods commencing in the Summer of 2019 - shortlisted scholars will be funded for the duration of their research project.
