Please note that some departments may have subject-related work placement arrangements with international organisations through specific Year in Industry programme routes. Alternatively, there may be other opportunities available through the With Placement Year or independent internship providers.
These are the departments who offer a Year in Industry programme through which you may be able to undertake an international placement. Speak to your supervisor or departmental coordinator for information on options available to you.
If you are a Language and Linguistic Science student, speak to your department about International work placements as part of your Year Abroad programme.
A placement year is a structured 9-12 month work experience opportunity that can be integrated into your University of York studies, giving you a substantial amount of work experience that is recognised within your degree title. You may take your placement year in the UK or overseas.
Independent internship providers offer opportunities to work with companies in specified cities across the world to match you in a role relating to your degree and/or professional aspirations. The providers charge for the service, which includes internship matching, pre-departure training, visa support, accommodation, 24/7 on-location support, possible language classes and social, business and networking events. Programme fees and start dates will vary depending on the destination and programme providers.
Using an internship provider can help you find a job in a destination in which you would not normally be able to organise your own opportunity.

|British Council Generation UK: China||China||The British Council is offering financial support for Internships through CCRC Asia or InternChina. Based in six chinese cities: Beijing, Chengdu, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
The bursary covers all placement fees, your accommodation, comprehensive travel insurance, pick-up from the airport and
dedicated support throughout your placement.

They have 14 internship sectors including Business, Engineering, Finance, Green Technology, Legal, Logistics and NGOs, Charities and Not-for-profits

Virtual Internships allows students wanting to gain global work experience an internship from the comfort of their own homes, working between 15-37 hours per week for 1-3 months with organisations across the global. Each of the organisations offering placements through The Virtual Mojo are unique start-ups or non profits operating in different sectors. The one thing that they all have in common, is their focus on social impact. Be it mental healthcare, women empowerment, environment protection or animal protection our interns can gain valuable international work experience whilst also supporting social impact.
Placements cost from $500 and can be started at any point during the year.

Think Pacific is a registered Fijian Charity and UK social enterprise with over 10 years’ experience supporting Fijian Government Ministries, NGOs, local enterprises and business partners to achieve ethical, responsible and sustainable development, whilst allowing students to have a self-developing and rewarding experience.
Our virtual programme allows students to contribute to the Fiji National Development Plan & UN Sustainable Development goals across a range of different careers fields. Working on behalf of a Fijian organisation, students complete a social action project that tackles real problems in the South Pacific, whilst learning about the fascinating Fijian culture and developing global citizenship.
