The Department of Politics and International Relations places you at the heart of current political thinking, research and debate. They offer a broad range of modules across Political Science, International Relations and Political Theory.

Undergraduate students

Choosing your modules

Please see list of modules, this list is indicative of the type of module which may be available during your study period, some of the modules indicated may not run, please check module catalogue. Please note that not all Politics modules advertised in the module catalogue are available to Exchange and Visiting Students.

You will be contacted by the department during early September or early December (depending on your start date) to discuss your module choices.

Postgraduate students

The Department of Politics does not accept postgraduate taught students. If you are interested in postgraduate research opportunities, please get in touch with our postgraduate research contact.

Undergraduate and postgraduate English language requirements

IELTS: 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component (the language requirements are part way down the page. The other requirements are not applicable).

Teaching schedule

You can study in our department for the following periods:

Undergraduate students

  • Full academic year
  • Semester 1 only
  • Semester 2 only

Postgraduate research students

  • Rolling application, the department prefers that students start at the beginning of a month.

Examination and assessment

Assessment is by examination or by written assessment during the Common Examination Periods at the end of each semester (alternate assessments may be available: please discuss these with the Department). The Department will advise regarding submission for postgraduate research assessments.
