Visas and immigration
If you are an international student you may need to apply for a visa in order to become a full-time student in the UK. Students on a Student Visa (formerly Tier 4 Visa) are not currently permitted to study part-time at York.
Find out whether you will need a visa, how to apply and what documents you may need.
For general information see UK Visas and Immigration (gov.uk).
EEA and Swiss students
Before arriving in the UK, you’ll need to apply for a Student (previously Tier 4) visa and pay an Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) (estimated at £470 per year). Visiting students doing courses of less than 6 months are required to get a Standard Visitor Visa issued at the UK border. If you’re an EEA or Swiss applicant already living in the UK, you’ll need to have applied for settled or pre-settled status by 30 June 2022.
Getting your confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
If you require a Student Visa to study in the UK, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You can request your CAS after you have accepted an offer. We can issue your CAS once your offer becomes unconditional, and not longer than six months before your course starts.
