Welcome to TFTI

Congratulations on your offer to study with us. We can't wait to meet you. We've put together some resources and ideas to help get you started on your TFTI journey.

No matter what you are planning on studying in the Autumn Term keep an eye on this page as we'll be updating it over the coming weeks. You can also join our Facebook community group for 20/21 students, and check out our Instagram and Twitter.

Business of the Creative Industries

Things to do over the summer:

  • Keep an eye on the news to be up to date with the most recent goings on in the creative industry since the COVID-19 outbreak. Consider how creatives are adapting to this new way of working.
  • You can get a headstart on some reading, or just take a look at the module topics you'll cover. You can find information on each module on your course page, click on the module and the reading list will be at the end of the page.

Interactive Media

Film and Television Production

Start to explore different content:

  • Check out some video essays on youtube - there are loads out there, and while some are better (and more accurate) than others, we recommend Studio Binder, Every Frame a Painting, Cinefix, Must See Films, and Rob Agar.
  • Watch a lot of films! Explore films made by a range of directors (everyone from Sofia Coppola to Akira Kurosawa, Fritz Lang to Great Gerwig), and explore genres and international cinema that you don’t normally gravitate towards.
  • Watch TV, not just Netflix. Look at some of the live and as live broadcast content as well such as light entertainment and the big Saturday night ‘Shiny floor’ shows, game shows, soaps etc.

Theatre, Writing, Directing and Performance

We've selected some things to pique your interest:

  • The National Theatre's NTLive is streaming a show a week, these will be available for a week
  • Our very own Dr Ben Poore has written about reading playwrights as public figures
  • Learn about the history of old theatres across the UK in fascinating detail with Arthur Lloyd's collections
  • With thousands of plays available you're spoilt for choice with the Drama Online Library
  • Take a look at Forest Fringe's 2012 Paper Stages where artists ask you to perform their works in locations around the city (or in your bedroom)
  • Check out the world's largest digital library of scripts by living writers with New Play Exchange
  • The Folger Shakespeare Library has a huge range of audio and text resources, and is making the film of their Macbeth available until July
