To provide students with an understanding of the wider business context in which Actuaries and other related professionals will work, integrating where appropriate the analysis of case studies to enhance the learning. The competencies gained should enable students to apply tools and techniques to assist strategic thinking for a role managing organisations.
On successful completion of this subject, a student will be able to operate in the professional arena by maintaining awareness of key ethical and legal issues, continuing to deepen and expand their knowledge and recognising how actuarial practice impacts on stakeholders and society and specifically:
Critically evaluate and apply the strategic tools, frameworks and theories needed to assess the strategic position of a business.
Explain how cultural, political and economic factors impact the success of strategies.
Understand the role of values and behaviours in the long-term performance of a business.
Understand the importance of leadership in an organisation.
Critically evaluate and apply leadership theories and leadership behaviour
Understand the nature and dynamics of working in teams.
