You can enrol on any of the staff courses listed below by accessing the University's Learning Management System (LMS) (you will need your York username and password to sign in). 

Impact and public engagement

Workshops include:

  • Building Impact into Funding Proposals

  • Public Engagement of Research.
We also offer a range of public engagement events including the bi-annual ‘Falling Walls’ event and ‘York Talks’.

Research management & Research Support

The knowledge and skills to work with others and ensure the wider impact of research.

Workshops include: Managing Your Research Data; Research Data Management
Introduction to Project Management (1&2); Data Protection & Freedom of Information; Open Access Publication; Research Integrity and Ethics; What counts? An Introduction to Bibliometrics

IT Training

A full suite of support and training for IT is provided including practical workshops on:

  • Working with data
  • Collaborative content and media
  • Introduction to Research Computing
  • Essential spreadsheets & Access 
  • The Networked Researcher - Twitter, Blogging and Online Reputation (online)

Professional, Personal and Careers Development

A comprehensive suite of training is available including workshops on Project Management; Time Management; Influence and Persuasion, Presenting with Confidence; Facilitating Collaboration; PGR Supervisor Masterclass; Developing Personal Resilience and Practical Performance Management

Careers workshops include: Career Planning for Research Staff, Applying for Jobs CVs, applications and interviews.
Bespoke one to one career consultations are also offered subject to availability. Online careers resources and podcasts to support career management are available, and through Vitae.

  • Support and Information for Supervisors - if your supervisee is making a change to their programme, guidance is available here
  • PGR Supervisor Training sessions will be running thoughout 2018/19 for the experienced and less experienced supervisors of postgraduate research students. 
  • The Research Support Spring Symposium is an opportunity to share valuable expertise, gain updates in topics pertinent to supporting research and meet colleagues.
