Student mail

Letters

During the academic year, Royal Mail delivers letters to the majority of University accommodation block letter boxes.

If Royal Mail is unable to deliver a letter to your accommodation block, it will be taken to the relevant mailroom for you to collect:

  • Piazza Mailroom (Campus East)
    • During semester: 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday; 11am to 3pm, Sunday
    • Out of semester: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Dalham Farm Student Mailroom (Campus West)
    • During semester: 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday
    • Out of semester: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Parcels

All packet and parcel items are delivered to either the Piazza Mailroom (Campus East) or Dalham Farm Student Mailroom (Campus West).

The Mailroom Team needs to process your parcel before you can collect it. Your courier may tell you that your parcel has been ‘delivered’, but please wait until you receive an email from the University containing your QR code before coming to the mailroom.

Your email will contain a unique Parcel Number and QR code. Bring your QR code with you when you collect your parcel, either on your phone or printed out.

If your phone dies, don’t worry – you can still collect your parcel by showing your Student Card or University ID, although this may take a little longer.

If you need something by a particular date, please order it in advance as we cannot guarantee that it will be processed in time. Items delivered over the weekend are not processed until Monday morning.

Posting mail

If you want to post personal items, you can take your mail to any of the following locations on campus:

Forwarding or redirecting mail

The official way to redirect your mail after you have finished your tenancy is to contact Royal Mail and complete a redirection form.

If you have left the University but still have mail at the University that you would like forwarded to your home address, email the University Mailroom at mail-room@york.ac.uk

Please provide:

  • your postal address
  • your Parcel ID, if applicable
  • the College you attended
  • your contact telephone number

As this service incurs a cost, the Mailroom will contact you to take payment over the phone once they have retrieved your item(s). They will then forward your mail and provide a payment receipt.
