History and development

The University of York opened in 1963 with three buildings. Today, we look to expand our campus.


Our campus is home to many landmarks including listed buildings, colleges and Central Hall.

Art on campus

Our campus is home to sculptures and galleries, featuring art from local and international artists.

Shopping and food

The University is home to many shops and eateries open to students, staff, and members of the public.

Visiting the campus

The best way to see campus is on foot or bicycle; parking spaces are limited.


The University is renowned for its rich wildlife, including rabbits, squirrels, fish and birds.
