Postgraduate research funding for international (including EU) students

We offer scholarships, bursaries and other funding to help you with tuition fees and living expenses.

Funding opportunities open and close all the time, so please check this page throughout the year.

Doctoral Training at York

Government schemes, like Doctoral Focal Awards (DFAs) and Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLAs), are the main sources of financial support for postgraduate researchers.

In addition to covering tuition fees in full, membership of a funded DFA or DLA usually includes a UKRI stipend, funding for research costs (such as fieldwork or conferences), and access to networking, cohort activities, and specialist training. These programmes offer a strong research community and help you build skills and experience valued both in academia and beyond.

Funding for students with disabilities

If you have a mental health problem, long-term illness or any other disability, you may be eligible for additional financial support.
