Postgraduate research funding (PhD)
We're committed to providing as many opportunities as possible to support postgraduate study. In all cases, applicants will be expected to apply to study at York before applying for funding opportunities.
Full guidance will be provided by the Department of History. If you are interested in applying for any departmental or central University opportunity, you are strongly advised to contact history-admissions@york.ac.uk in the first instance to help support your application. Please also discuss funding opportunities with your prospective supervisor.
The University offers information on Postgraduate research fees and funding opportunities available to applicants, which include:

With generous funding from the Wolfson Foundation, the Wolfson Postgraduate Scholarships fund doctoral research in three Subject Disciplines: History, Literature and Languages.
AHRC White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities (WRoCAH) Open Competition Studentships
The Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities Open Competition scholarships suit student-led PhD projects within the AHRC remit of Histories, Cultures and Heritage, Creative and Performing Arts, and Languages and Literature.
