Your chosen course, level of study and other statuses may all affect your eligibility for the opportunities listed here.

Research projects

Our academics are working on a wide range of projects suitable for research students to join. Some of these projects are funded.

Commonwealth Scholarships

The University of York is a host university for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Various opportunities are available throughout the year. The majority of awards are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

  • Open to: Students from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize and more (see eligibility)

Saïd Foundation scholarship

The Saïd Foundation awards fully-funded scholarships to outstanding individuals from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine who are looking to study for a one-year Masters degree in the UK.

  • Funding: Full tuition fee plus additional benefits (see below)
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Application deadline: Tuesday 31 October 2023, 5pm GMT
  • Open to: Students from Syria, Jordan and Lebanon and Palestine
  • Number available: Up to 3 at York (20-30 across all partners)

York Graduate Research School (YGRS) PhD Scholarships

We're pleased to offer up to six fully-funded PhD scholarships for UK candidates who self-identify as being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME) background.

  • Funding: Tuition fees at UK (home) rate; UKRI-aligned stipend; research training support grant
  • Academic year: 2023/24
  • Application deadline: Friday 29 March 2024, 11.59am GMT
  • Open to: UK (home) students
  • Number available: Up to 6 per year

York Minster Choral Scholarships

York Minster offers choral scholarships lasting 12 months or longer to altos, tenors and basses who are undergraduate or postgraduate students.
