Module summary

This module will provide you with the opportunity to undertake an industry work placement using 3 different models: (1) on site/with the placement provider (2) based on a brief from a partner organisation or (3) with a staff member/projects within the School. Your placement will be organised with your specialism in mind and will focus on equipping you with first-hand experience of challenges faced within the professional visual effects industries. You will be expected to spend at least 10-hours each week working with the placement provider where applicable.

You will be assigned an academic supervisor, and where applicable a supervisor from the external organisation, to support you in your work.

Module aims

This module aims for students: -

  • To gain experience of working on projects related toprofessional environments for film and television.
  • To critically reflect on the organisational structure and management of professional practices and project within the creative industries.
  • To produce a reflective piece of work that outlines understanding of career progression and opportunities within film and television.

Module learning outcomes

Upon completion of this modules, students are expected to be able to:

  • Develop self-direction, originality and good communication in tackling and solving problems within a professional environment.

  • Critically evaluate the complexities and constraints professionals must navigate in order to apply relevant principles in practice.

  • Systematically understand knowledge and prove a critical awareness of one or more professional roles within the film and television visual effects industries.

  • Reflect critically on their own practice and draw on experiences to inform learning and professional development.
