Module aims

This module aims to help students towards finding an original and technically assured voice in relation to their final projects in performance, composition or research, and to present their work as if in a professional arena. As with projects 1 and 2, the main teaching is through tutorial and/or individual vocal or instrumental lessons.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students should

Knowledge and understanding

1) have a good knowledge of written and sounding materials and other research tools as appropriate to their areas of interest;

2) be using those tools with some assurance;

3) have gained a good level of experience of previous and current work relevant to their new or expanded research areas;

4) have experience in applying to their research findings a larger range of critical tools drawn from performance studies, composition, musicology, analysis and related disciplines as appropriate;

5) know how to contextualize and critically assess their findings in a sophisticated way;

6) know how to articulate those findings in a sophisticated way through performance, composition or writing;

7) continue to develop a knowledge of texts and compositions to widen experience of the field in which they are working

Discipline related learning outcomes

1) have produced work (composition, performance, essay) showing sophisticated and original ideas through creative and academic exploration;

2) have developed those ideas by advanced study of the processes of compositions, performances and academic writing and learning to apply them to their own work;

3) through the development of vocal, instrumental, compositional or academic writing technique, be able to present a large body of work in performance, writing or composition which will test stamina.
