The module explores the theories and practical approaches to strategic management and change in the public and private sectors in the context of a globalised economy. It focuses on how organisations develop strategy and manage change, and on the skills and techniques that managers need for effective strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation.

Module aims

The module explores the theories and practical approaches to strategic management and change in the public and private sectors in the context of a globalised economy. It focuses on how public and private organisations develop strategy and manage change, and on the skills and techniques that managers need for effective strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation.

Module learning outcomes

  • Develop the ability to scan the business environment and to relate the environment to business cases
  • Demonstrate theoretical understanding of the strategic management processes, change management, strategy implementation and evaluation
  • Evaluate strategic management processes and techniques in a range of settings and contexts, in particular, in the context of rapid changing global environment
  • Be able to apply the theoretical concepts introduced by the module to a range of organisations and managers.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the skills and techniques required for effective strategic and change management in the global economy
  • Critically analyse the impact of strategic and change management within a range of organisations in a range of private sector, public sector and global contexts.
