Occurrence Teaching period
A Autumn Term 2021-22 to Spring Term 2021-22

Module aims

  • To equip students with core craft and technical skills relating to stained glass manufacture and conservation
  • To prepare students for the workshop placements in the summer term/summer vacation
  • To complement their historical and art historical studies by ensuring a familiarity with the physical evidence of historical techniques and approaches, thereby building an ability to recognise them in historic artefacts
  • To introduce students to the professional sphere and to support them in networking with their practitioner peers (master-class participation)

Module learning outcomes

  • Mastery of techniques of cutting, glazing, leading, glass-painting
  • Command of range of documentation techniques
  • Selection of appropriate conservation methods (cleaning, edge-bonding, infills etc) and an ability to deploy them appropriately
  • Ability to document a project from start to finish
