This module aims to facilitate your learning when you engage with research and evidence or with the research process, developing skills in the conduct of the early stages of the research process, the critical analysis of research, and in applying research findings to practice.

This module aims to facilitate your learning when you engage with research and evidence or with the research process, developing skills in the conduct of the early stages of the research process, the critical analysis of research, and in applying research findings to practice.
Develop an understanding of research as a process from systematic examination of existing knowledge and research question construction, through research design, data collection and analysis, to reporting and dissemination.
Develop a research question iteratively through a critical review of existing research/evidence
Describe the range of research designs used in health sciences, and be able to provide a justification for using a particular research design to address a given research question.
Communicate an understanding of ethical issues in study protocol development, including research integrity and validity issues

Formative Assessment
You will identify a paper which is relevant to your chosen topic and critique these using an appropriate tool. You will then upload your summary of your critical appraisal, with a justification to the VLE discussion board where you will be encouraged to give feedback on others work.
Feedback will come from both peers and the module leader.
Summative Assessment
You will identify a question which you will address through a critical appraisal of appropriate published evidence. You will present this question, your approach to searching for the evidence and your summary critique in a written essay of up to 2000 (+/- 10%) words.
Your search strategy, including keywords and inclusion/exclusion should be appended to your essay.
Evidence may include reference to policies and if this is the case they must be publically available.
