To aid students understanding of the principles and application of CBA by researchers and governments.
In particular, students will be introduced to appropriate analytical frameworks to:
Appreciate recent theoretical debate
Evaluate empirical evidence
Contribute to the current policy debate
Module learning outcomes
To understand the basic principles and introductory application of CBA by researchers and governments, including:
Undertaking an elementary cost-benefit analysis in the appraisal of, for example, transport networks, environmental damage.
Appreciating the techniques used to value goods and services for which markets may not exist (for example pollution, free access facilities, healthcare)
Policy evaluation
This is a second year applied economics course, students should have already successfully completed Economics 1 or the equivalent.
