Anyone can use the University Library for reference without needing to be a member.

Access to the building is via card activated turnstiles. If you don't have a University Card (issued to staff and students), you'll need to go to the Library reception desk when you arrive.

You'll be issued with a temporary card which will allow you to enter the Library for the day.

You will find information on using our services and collections on this website.

If you are a York graduate you can join the Library as an external member for a reduced fee.

What are the benefits of membership?

Joining the Library as an external member will allow you to:

Unfortunately you won't be able to use our electronic resources unless you visit the Library in person, as publishers' licences restrict their use to current University of York staff and students, or to the Library premises.

Most of our e-resources can be used free of charge on the Library premises, as long as that use is for educational purposes (commercial use is prohibited).

Alumni access to JSTOR

The University of York Global Alumni Association provides alumni and retired staff with access to JSTOR, an archive collection of academic journals covering a wide range of subjects. Please visit the Alumni website for further information.
