Virtual Library

We recognise that for many of our alumni, the University library formed a cornerstone of your learning experience as a student.

To help you reconnect and stay connected, we are creating a Virtual Library signposting you to online and in-person resources available to you as a York alum, including JSTOR, library membership, interactive maps, Creativity Lab events and more.

Whether you’re visiting in-person or online, the Virtual Library is your gateway to a realm of endless exploration and discovery to support your continued educational development, all in one place.

Access to JSTOR’s extensive collection is free as a University of York alum, enabling you to immerse yourself in peer-reviewed articles, historic texts and scholarly articles to further understanding in your field of choice. Delve into the past, shape the present and envisage the future with JSTOR’s comprehensive library. To access JSTOR you'll need an alumni email account. You can either register for an account or if you have one already sign in now. Make sure you select 'University of York Alumni Access' from the institution drop down menu.

Write your will for free with Octopus Legacy

The University of York has partnered with Octopus Legacy to offer our alumni a free will writing service (UK only). Having an up-to-date will is the only way to make sure that the people and causes you care about are looked after when you’re no longer here, that’s why we have partnered with Octopus Legacy.

Their team is on hand to answer any questions you may have either on the telephone, via live-chat, or by email. This service is absolutely safe and secure, with no obligation, though we do ask that you consider remembering the University of York.

If you would prefer to talk directly to a solicitor, the will writing offer also includes telephone and face-to-face services, To find out more, or book an appointment, call the Octopus Legacy team on 0800 773 4014 and quote ‘University of York’ or click the link below.

Claim your free will

This gift will cost you nothing to make today, the value won’t lessen over time, and it can truly make a huge difference. It will open doors for future generations of students, support our groundbreaking researchers, and ensure our campus continues to be a wonderful place to learn. Read further about the impact of legacies at York here.

In addition, a charitable gift in your will to the University of York will fall outside inheritance tax. You can also cut the inheritance tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36%, if you leave at least 10% of your 'net estate' to a charity/charities.

Including a legacy gift to York is in no way a condition of using the free will writing service.
