These scholarships and studentships are available to postgraduate taught students in the Department of Economics and Related Studies.

Your chosen course, level of study and other statuses may all affect your eligibility for the opportunities listed here.

York Graduate Loyalty Discount

If you've previously studied at the University of York, you could be eligible for a tuition fee discount for postgraduate taught courses.

  • Funding: Ten per cent tuition fee discount
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Open to: International (including EU) and UK (home) students

Chevening Scholarship

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue a one-year Masters degree in the UK. Chevening looks for the kind of people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future.

  • Funding: Full tuition fee plus living stipend
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Application deadline: Tuesday 7 November 2023, 12pm GMT
  • Open to: Students from Afghanistan (Afghans resident outside Afghanistan only), Albania, Algeria, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina and more (see eligibility)
  • Number available: Ten co-funded by York, plus the main awards

GREAT Scholarships

We regularly offer scholarships to students from a selection of countries in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign.

  • Funding: £10,000
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Application deadline: Monday 20 May 2024, 11.59pm BST
  • Open to: Students from China, Nigeria (Justice and Law), Pakistan, Thailand and Turkey (Justice and Law)
  • Number available: 5

Commonwealth Scholarships

The University of York is a host university for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Various opportunities are available throughout the year. The majority of awards are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

  • Open to: Students from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize and more (see eligibility)

Saïd Foundation scholarship

The Saïd Foundation awards fully-funded scholarships to outstanding individuals from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine who are looking to study for a one-year Masters degree in the UK.

  • Funding: Full tuition fee plus additional benefits (see below)
  • Academic year: 2024/25
  • Application deadline: Tuesday 31 October 2023, 5pm GMT
  • Open to: Students from Syria, Jordan and Lebanon and Palestine
  • Number available: Up to 3 at York (20-30 across all partners)

York Minster Choral Scholarships

York Minster offers choral scholarships lasting 12 months or longer to altos, tenors and basses who are undergraduate or postgraduate students.

  • Funding: £7032.48
  • Academic year: 2023/24
  • Open to: International (including EU) and UK (home) students

Yorkshire Bach Choir

We are now accepting applications for our choral scholarship scheme for 2023/24. The 12-month scholarships will be open to all four voice parts.

  • Funding: £500 (to be paid in 2 instalments, one in December, one in June)
  • Academic year: 2023/24
  • Application deadline: Saturday 30 September 2023, 12pm BST
  • Open to: International (including EU) and UK (home) students
