Why study economics at York?

At York, we offer a range of courses and modules exploring economics as a driving force in our society, from the price of milk to the global distribution of wealth. Course options

There are opportunities for you to spend time abroad during your course. You'll also have the chance to take a placement year. In previous years our students have worked for companies including Ernst & Young, UPS and Amazon.

If you're studying at a university outside the UK, you may be able to spend up to a year in York as a visiting student.

Our facilities

We have a range of specialised teaching and learning spaces, and an industry-standard trading room, allowing students to experience how financial markets really operate.

You'll be based in the Department of Economics and Related Studies and most of your teaching will take place on Campus West. 

You'll gain access to shared resources and financial databases.

  • You'll have access to our Careers and Placements team who will work with you to devise a tailored career plan. They can also alert you to various internship opportunities in and around Yorkshire. 

Our graduates

Recent graduates have gone on to work in a range of roles in the public sector, banking and finance, and at companies such as Allianz, PwC, Jaguar, British Airways, Ministry of Justice and Royal Bank of Canada. Many of our undergraduates go on to further study.
