Frequently asked questions

You may have some questions about our upcoming Open Days, so we've compiled a helpful list of frequently asked questions.

We're planning for the 2022 Open Days to take place in person on campus.

You're welcome to bring up to two guests with you to our Open Days. If you need to bring more guests, please email openday@york.ac.uk to let us know.

Our upcoming Open Days will cover information aimed at Year 12 applicants considering applying to start university in September 2023. If you have not been able to attend a visit day for offer holders, you can visit campus independently at any time.

We recommend downloading our new app, Visit UoY, which allows you to take an outdoor, self-guided tour of our campus, narrated by our current students. There are options within the app to take a tour of Campus West, Campus East and the city of York, as well as a tour for international students.

Details of how to travel to campus can be found on our transport and parking page.

You won't need to book a place at individual sessions and talks. Once you've booked a place on an Open Day, you will have access to all the talks and sessions taking place at that event. Some talks may be busy, so we would advise arriving a little early for talks.

You're welcome to visit our campus at any time that suits you. Coming by car

There will be no parking available on campus, except for blue badge holders. Please use the park and ride services from Rufforth Airfield West.

A free Open Day bus service will be provided on each of our Open Days. The first shuttle bus to Campus Central car park on Campus West will leave Rufforth Airfield West at 8.45am and will then operate at regular intervals. All return buses will leave from Campus Central car park on Campus West. The last bus from campus to the Airfield will leave at 4.30pm.

For more information please see our how to get here page.

Travelling by Train

A free Open Day bus service will run between York railway station and Campus Central car park at the University (around two miles). Look out for our staff and Student Ambassadors who will be at the station until 12 noon to direct you to our specially marked York Pullman buses outside the station. The buses will run regularly from 8.45am. The journey will take about 20 minutes, but please allow extra time if you’re travelling at peak times.

Return buses to the train station will leave from Campus Central car park on Campus West. The last bus will leave at 4.30pm. From Campus East, please board any bus (they are free) in the direction of Campus West. We recommend that you leave no later than 4pm to make sure you don't miss the last shuttle bus.

For more information please see our how to get here page.

The Open Day programme will be published a few weeks before the event. Everyone who has booked a place at the event will receive the programme by email once it is available. There will also be physical copies available to pick up at the event.
