Community learning and leisure

Adult learning

The Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) offers a range of part-time, open access learning opportunies to the local community, as well as a number of distance learning courses. Additional classes for adult learners are also offered by The Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) and Languages for All (LFA).

Summer schools

The University of York runs a number of residential schools in spring and summer. These residentials are designed to provide participants with an insight into life as a university student, whilst also learning about what higher education entails.

Green Apples

Green Apples is an aspiration-raising project for young students that has been running since 1998. Hundreds of pupils at 20 local York schools attend the programme which helps to demystify higher education and discuss careers.

Chemistry at York

Our Department of Chemistry has a dedicated Schools Liaison and Outreach programme which offers a range of talks and hands-on activities suitable for students of all ages. In addition, they also offer science continuing professional development to primary teachers, as well as a wide range of teaching resources.
