Module evaluation

You are asked to complete module evaluation surveys at the end of each semester to give your honest feedback on what went well and what we could improve.

Towards the end of the teaching period each semester, you receive an email asking for your thoughts on key areas:

  • Module organisation and structure
  • Teaching and learning
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Workload and challenge
  • Overall experience

Please give your honest and constructive feedback to help us make improvements.

When do I complete module evaluation?

You receive an email for every module you are requested to evaluate towards the end of the teaching period in each semester.

Evaluation is normally open for two weeks.

Is my feedback confidential?

Your module evaluations are confidential and your name/student ID is not included in any reports. However, there are circumstances where we may need to act, such as if you express comments that:

In these instances, and where the Head of School/Department and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students give authority, designated staff will be able to link specific comments to a student identification number to enable follow-up actions as appropriate.

What if I accidentally submit my response before I've finished?

The bottom section of the student module evaluation portal lists all surveys you have submitted feedback to. If you wish to update or add to your comments, there are two options to either 'delete and restart' or 'edit and resubmit'.

What happens next?

After the module evaluation period closes, students who have completed the survey immediately receive initial information about the findings of the survey.

Then, within ten working days of the evaluation closing date, your academic department sends all students a summary of evaluation results and includes reflections on the survey and actions that will be taken as a result of your feedback.

How do I give useful feedback?

For feedback to be useful, it needs to be specific, courteous, impartial (i.e. without unconscious bias), honest and forward-looking.

For tips on how to give good feedback, see our guide to giving constructive feedback in surveys.
