Module summary

In this module you will research and deliver a substantial project on a topic of your own devising, or in response to a one of the topics offered for supervision, within the context of the creative and cultural sectors. The individual project enables you to apply the knowledge, research and study skills acquired in the first two terms of your program, and develop these further in ways that interest you, and that are best suited to your own interests, and future career choices.

The topic and scope of the project will be negotiated and agreed between the student and the supervisor. Its format may vary and include: a comparative study of marketing or communications strategy; research into audience participation and engagement; assessment and evaluations of success and failure in creative businesses.

Module aims

The module aims to:

  • Enhance your ability to successful lead, manage an individual real-world or theoretical project, consolidating advanced skills in design, planning and execution;
  • Develop research skills including formulating a proposal, devising research questions and applying disciplinary or cross-disciplinary methodological approaches;
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of a specialist area in the creative and cultural industries, contextualised within precedent, current or future contexts;
  • Enhance skills of analysis, reflection and critical evaluation through application to conceptual, theoretical and practical issues within a specialist area;

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module you should be able to:

  • Successfully lead a substantial, independent project demonstrating advanced skills in design, planning and execution and an excellent and systematic knowledge of the field.
  • Situate your project within precedent, current and future contexts and practices by synthesising, applying and critically evaluating an advanced conceptual, theoretical and practical understanding of complex issues and ideas within your specialist area.
  • Deploy sophisticated written presentation skills, and use of appropriate media in the compelling delivery of your project to academic or other audiences.

Module feedback

You will receive written feedback in line with standard University turnaround times.

You will receive formative feedback to a 3,000 word submission of your choice. During supervision sessions you will be given verbal feedback.
