Module aims

The module aims to develop enterprise and innovation awareness and entrepreneurial capability linked to concepts around sustainability and entrepreneurial effectiveness, which can be applied in a range of contexts. The module is also designed to develop the ability of students to work in teams. The module will give students alternative perspectives on their career options and ultimately, the confidence to set up their own venture, or engage in innovation based or entrepreneurial activities in different contexts and settings. The module will allow students to develop and present an overview of an entrepreneurial project using forward planning tools and criteria to assess impact and sustainability, which may involve, for example, constructing a viable business model, policy initiative or management intervention.

Module learning outcomes

- Apply a structured approach to developing an opportunity into a deliverable concept, taking into account the complexity, challenges and opportunities surrounding entrepreneurial and innovative projects linked to sustainability.
- Develop and communicate functional approaches to the exploration, planning, development, financing and launch of an innovative entrepreneurial project or venture linked to sustainability.
- Demonstrate, analyse and reflect upon the skills necessary for effective group, teamwork and career development in the context of innovation and entrepreneurship linked to sustainability.
- Critically analyse and reflect upon sustainability challenges linked to entrepreneurship and innovation.

Enterprise, entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship based theories, models and practice linked to sustainability.
Innovation focused theories, models and practice linked to sustainability.
Business planning, business model development, business case and project plan development.
Problem solving linked to entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability.
Teamwork and teambuilding in the context of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Entrepreneurship skills development - opportunity creation/recognition, planning, creativity, risk taking, communication, presentations, network development, stakeholder management.
Sustainability and linked challenges.
Functional business areas linked to entrepreneurship and innovation - marketing, operations, HR, finance, strategy.
