Module summary

This module is only available to students who do not complete the Dissertation and instead wish to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma. It enables students to demonstrate results from their initial research on the dissertation topic area.

Module aims

The Diploma Research Project enables those students who do not complete the full MA Dissertation to demonstrate their initial stages of research. The contents of the 4000-word assessment may vary depending on the nature of the work carried out and will be agreed with the supervisor. For example, it may include a smaller component of the larger project, an in-depth literature review, and/or a reflection of project learning.

Module learning outcomes

The work submitted for the Diploma Research Project is expected to demonstrate:

  • ability to conduct research within a defined art-historical subject
  • ability to organise and engage critically with secondary sources relevant to the topic
  • ability to present work with scholarly professionalism
