Module aims

The module (worth 120 credits) represents the industrial work placement. The placement seeks to provide you with work experience enhancing employability. A placement allows you to sample a particular industry. A placement aims to enable you to understand your course of study and its application in a working environment. For students enrolled on a 'with industry' route the placement year takes place after Stage 2.

Module learning outcomes

The learning outcomes for the year in Industry for students are that on completion of the year and logbook students will be able to demonstrate that they are able to do the 4 core outcomes plus at least 2 additional ones.

Core

  1. Perform a range of work, sometimes complex and non-routine, in varied environments

  2. Organise and keep track of own work (and others where needed) to meet agreed timescales.

  3. Communicate with team and stakeholders inside and outside the organisation clearly explaining and presenting information.

  4. Take the initiative in identifying and negotiating appropriate development opportunities.

Additional

  1. Work under general direction to complete assigned tasks.

  2. Work with and influences team decisions.

  3. Use discretion in identifying and responding to complex issues related to own assignments.

  4. Understand and collaborate on the analysis of user/customer needs and represent this in your work.

  5. Apply a methodical approach to investigate and evaluate options to resolve routine and moderately complex issues.

  6. Identify and implement improvements in own work area

  7. Provide basic guidance and support to less experienced team members as needed.

  8. Understand and effectively apply appropriate methods, tools, applications and processes.

  9. Apply appropriate professionalism and working practices and knowledge to work.

Module feedback

Summative written feedback is provided for the logbook. In addition formative feedback is provided during the placement. Marking is not completed until the end of Autumn term after students return from placement because the process involves industry partners.
