Module summary

In this module visiting students will coordinate and find a research lab to conduct an original piece of individual scientific research related to one or more biological concepts or systems under the supervision of research-active members of academic staff. Projects may include lab or field work, or may focus on data analysis or computational/theoretical work.

Module aims

Students should obtain first-hand experience of the research process in a scientific project, during which students should develop the key research skills including relevant techniques and research methodology, team working with an active research group and communication via written and/or oral presentation.

Module learning outcomes

Students will work with their project director to contribute to advance the understanding of the subject of their research, obtaining hands-on experience in the key aspects of research process.

Module feedback

The module is a pass/fail assessed by the project director based on their academic judgement. Any forms of specific assessment required by the home university need to be communicated with the project director and visiting student coordinator before the visit.
