Get started checklist
1. Set up your IT account and password
Your account gives you access to your University email account and IT systems, including the virtual learning environment (VLE).
- Log into the York Identity Manager: Enter your username and password (found in your joining instructions email). Then follow the prompts to set up your account and choose a new password.
2. Set up two-factor authentication (2FA)
We use two tools for authentication. Set them both up immediately to avoid access issues.
- Set up Duo 2FA: Required for most University services.
- Set up Google 2FA: Required for your University emails and Google Workspace apps.
3. Connect to wifi
Wifi is available across campus and the city of York.
- Laptops, tablets and phones: The first time you connect to eduroam wifi, you need to use the network setup tool.
- Smart devices and games consoles: You need to connect your device to the mydevices network.
4. Stay cyber safe
Every year, students are targeted by cyber criminals. Follow our steps to keep your information safe, avoid risks and strengthen your security wherever you are – at work, at home and on the go.
