The University of York works in partnership with a range of health and social care providers, commissioners and policymakers to address local, regional, national and global health challenges.

Local health research partnerships enable mutually beneficial and highly valued research collaboration in our region. We have a flexible approach to partnership development, supporting a variety of arrangements, from research priming through to the co-creation of large scale projects and infrastructure.

Such relationships provide our local research partners with valuable access to the University of York’s world-leading researchers and infrastructure. They give our researchers insight into real-world problems, and provide a mechanism to access clinical samples, data, patients and, most importantly, collaborators.

A resource for researchers

We are keen that research staff benefit from our health research partnerships for their own activities. The Research and Innovation Development Team within Research and Enterprise provide coordination, support and a point of contact for the University of York’s Health Research Partnerships.

For researchers, this support includes:

  • Brokering introductions, frequently through named support contacts at our partner organisations
  • Introductions to clinicians and other health and social care staff to discuss needs
  • Support for developing collaborations and grant applications
  • Help and support for public and patient involvement through Involvement@York
  • A broad outline understanding of each organisation’s needs
  • Knowledge and awareness of current research partnership activity
  • Organisation of joint events
  • Signposting to other relevant support services

A resource for health and care related organisations

Our health research partnerships provide a point of contact for any organisation interested in health and care related research which could benefit from the University of York’s expertise and infrastructure.

For new and current partner organisations, this support includes:

  • A single point of contact at the University
  • A broad outline understanding of the University of York’s research strengths and interests
  • Knowledge and awareness of current research partnership activity
  • Introductions to researchers and research development and support staff, to discuss needs
  • Support while developing collaborations and joint grant applications
