Contextual offers take social and economic factors that may have prevented you from reaching your true academic potential into account.
We know that some students face significant barriers during their journey to university. Contextual offers promote fairness and diversity in our community of talented students.
With a contextual offer, UK students can receive a reduced offer of up to three grades below our typical entry requirements.
How to apply
Hull York Medical School have different eligibility criteria for contextual offers. Find out more about contextual offers for medicine courses.
You’ll apply to York via UCAS (ucas.com). Let us know on your UCAS form if any of the following criteria apply to you:
- You've previously taken part in a University of York widening participation programme. Tell us which programme you attended on your UCAS application and let the programme team know that you're applying to York.
- You live in an area with low levels of progression to university and attend a state-funded school. Your home postcode on your UCAS form will be automatically assessed to see if you’re eligible for a contextual offer.
If you've had experience of local authority care, take a look at our York Access Scheme.
Please note: Students attending independent schools at point of application will not qualify for a contextual offer.
Our admissions team will review your UCAS application and the information you provided to see if you meet the criteria for a contextual offer. If we make you an offer, the conditions (including what grades you need) will be available via UCAS Hub (ucas.com).
