Preparing to leave the University?

News

Posted on Friday 29 May 2026

If you have finished your studies and won’t be returning to York next year, there are a few final steps you need to take.

Return all library loans

Any outstanding library loans must be returned to the Library by Friday 7 June 2026 to avoid lost charges

If for any reason you think you might struggle to meet this deadline, please contact the library as soon as possible.

Review your IT account and copy any personal files you’d like to keep

Once you finish your studies, you have a limited amount of time to access your University account and IT services (such your files, printing or library materials), before these are closed.

From managing research data to updating any subscription emails, work through our IT Leavers’ Guide for a list of practical steps you can take to feel prepared, and ensure a smooth transition out of the University.
