Seminar synopsis

In this talk Dr Kayleigh Garthwaite will discuss the research undertaken for her critically acclaimed book ‘Hunger pains: life inside foodbank Britain’. Trends in foodbank usage will be explored within the policy environment that it is argued accounts for much of this change. The human-dimension of foodbank use will be at the heart of the seminar, drawing on the in-depth ethnographic research undertaken by Kayleigh. Of particular interest to students will be the perspective on research methods employed and challenges faced by Kayleigh in pursuing her research and how the ethnographic research was balanced with volunteering in a foodbank.
