Interview with Hugh Bayley MP
On Friday 14 November 2014, Hugh Bayley MP will deliver an Open Lecture on Parliament and Peace.
As part of Parliament’s commemoration of 100 years since World War One, Hugh Bayley will explore the UK Parliament’s role in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which since 1955 has provided a forum for members of Parliament from across the Atlantic Alliance to discuss and influence decisions on Alliance security.
There will be an opportunity for questions after the lecture.
Hugh Bayley MP was elected MP for York Central in April 1992. He was Minister for Social Security and for Veterans, has served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and is currently President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
He previously worked for the trade union NALGO, and set up and ran the International Broadcasting Trust, making documentaries about international development for Channel 4 and other TV channels.
He was a member of the Executive Committee and National Committee of the Anti-Apartheid Movement and worked at the University of York as a lecturer in Social Policy and research fellow in health economics
