The University of York features among the world's elite institutions in all five subject areas featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject. Two subjects are ranked among the top 25 in the world.
Archaeology (12), Social Policy and Administration (joint 20) and English Literature and Language (27) all remain in the world top 30. History, Psychology and Development Studies were all ranked in the world top 100. Overall our Arts and Humanities subjects rank 55th in the world and 14th nationwide.
Within the UK, Archaeology (5), Social Policy and Administration (6) and English (7) all place in the top 10 for their subject areas.

QS rankings rate universities according to their academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. QS ranked 1,130 institutions in total. Close to 200 million citations and over 22 million papers were analysed.
