QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019

We have seven subjects in the world top 100, three of which are among the world top 30

The University of York features among the world's elite institutions in all five subject areas featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject. Three subjects are ranked among the top 25 in the world.

Social Policy and Administration (9), Archaeology (15) and English Literature and Language (24) all remain in the world top 30. History, Linguistics, Psychology and Sociology were all ranked in the world top 100. Overall our Arts and Humanities subjects rank joint 64th in the world and 12th nationwide.

Within the UK, Social Policy and Administration (4), Archaeology (5) English (8) and Linguistics (10) all place in the top 10 for their subject areas.

QS rankings rate universities according to their academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. QS ranked 1,222 institutions in total. Close to 200 million citations and over 22 million papers were analysed.
