QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017

Three world top 25 subjects

The University of York features among the world's elite institutions in all five subject areas featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject. Three subjects are ranked among the top 25 in the world.

Archaeology (11) and Social Policy and Administration (24) remain in the world top 25, joined this year by English (24). History, Lingustics, Psychology and Development Studies were all ranked in the world top 100. Overall our Arts and Humanities subjects rank 67th in the world and 13th nationwide.

Within the UK, Archaeology (5), Social Policy and Administration (5) and English (6) all place in the top 10 for their subject areas. 21 further subjects rank in the country's top 25 for their areas.

QS rankings rate universities according to their academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. QS evaluated more than 4,000 universities, qualified 3,098 and ranked 1,117 institutions in total. Over 127 million citations were analysed.
