Memorandum of understanding signed with the Institute of Geography at the University of the Punjab
Posted on Monday 6 July 2026
As a leading centre for geographical sciences, the Institute of Geography provides a diverse range of specialisations alongside traditional geography, including applied GIS, remote sensing and environmental studies.
This partnership aligns perfectly with YESI’s research themes, particularly Resilient Socio-ecological Systems and Environment, Climate and Health. The overarching aim of this MoU is to enable YESI and the Institute of Geography to develop long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation in interdisciplinary environmental sustainability and climate change research, education, innovation and policy engagement.
To achieve these goals, both parties will explore opportunities to promote and develop collaboration through joint research and funding applications, co-authored publications and co-hosted workshops or seminars designed to connect key stakeholders and exchange ideas on urgent climate change challenges. Additionally, the partnership will facilitate staff exchanges for visiting lectureships, guest lectures and seminars, whilst supporting the development of joint training modules, summer schools and capacity-building programmes. Collaborative efforts will also extend to developing grant submissions as international research consortia, e.g. Horizon Europe, UKRI, the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Science Foundation, alongside the co-development of policy-relevant research outputs supporting climate resilience in Pakistan and globally.
This milestone MoU marks an important step toward fostering stronger international academic linkages and collaborative opportunities between the two institutions, illustrating the significant impact the YESI Fellows programme delivers beyond the scope of the initial research project itself.
