Career Coaching: Sofia

Name: Sofia Raseta

Degree: Human Geography and Environment (with a Placement Year)

Did you undertake coaching in your final year or after graduation?

After graduation (2023)

Where were you in relation to your career planning/making applications before you applied for career coaching?

I had just graduated and wanted to start applying for jobs, but needed to take a break until September. I debated whether or not to apply for a Masters, but I came to the conclusion that I wanted to get some more work experience before going back to education. I had a CV which needed some refining.

What did career coaching involve, and how did it help you?

I wanted help with looking at my career options. The first few sessions consisted of looking at Masters options and signing up for job notifications. I then received advice on my CV and how to enhance it for job applications. The coaching helped me understand the application process and what employers are looking for.

Where are you in relation to your career planning/making applications now?

I have a much clearer career path thanks to Helen, and know what I can do to gain more experience such as volunteering or shadowing local council members. I have recently secured a part time position as a research assistant at the University of Leeds.

Would you recommend careers coaching to other students and graduates? If yes, why?

It is extremely useful to ask for help when looking at the different types of careers available to you, as sometimes we don’t think to look down certain paths, or underestimate our abilities.
