Could you walk to campus?

Posted on 2 October 2023

Walking, if you are able to, is a great way to keep active and has a positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Our compact parkland campus makes walking to, from and around campus enjoyable and easy to do.

Did you know...

You can walk from Halifax College on Campus West to Campus East Bus Interchange in just 26 minutes?
On your way, you’ll encounter landscaped gardens, tranquil lakes and no doubt our vast wildlife. You might even be lucky enough to spot the Peregrine Falcon on Campus West!

Our Inter-campus travel guide 2023 (PDF , 177kb) provides estimated cycle and walking times, including to and from the city centre to both campuses.

Not only does walking help you beat the bus queues but it also helps you familiarise yourself with all of the buildings on campus; ones you’ll potentially need to find during your time studying at York. Our Campus Safety team also frequently patrols campus during all hours, including all walking routes, making campus a safe place to walk.

You can read more about walking to, from and around campus on our Cycling and Walking web page, as well as catch a video by one of our student content creators, Ana-Maria who takes us on a walk from Campus West to Campus East.

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about walking around campus, next week we’ll share more about another sustainable method of transport - cycling.

Can't wait until next week?

Visit our Travel and Transport web pages where you’ll find our University of York Public Transport Guide (PDF , 8,061kb) as well as lots of useful information about other sustainable transport methods such as cycling, using TIER electric scooters and bikes, and taking the bus.
