Studious Buzz zone

Behaviour in the Library

We’ve got dedicated zones across our buildings for those who wish to study silently, quietly or in a group.

These zones enable everyone to choose a space to work which suits them.

Please respect your fellow users by taking a look at what behaviour is appropriate and where in the Library.

Unattended property

The Library is often a very busy place and it's important we make the most of the space we have.

We’ve received lots of feedback asking us to free up space by removing items that have been left unattended for long periods.

For this reason, and for the security of your belongings we will remove any items that have been left for one hour or more.

How it works

  • We'll make a note if we spot any unattended items in the Library.
  • If the items are still unattended after one hour, Library staff will remove the items and store them securely at the Help Desk where they can be reclaimed.
  • If items are left overnight, they will be removed after 9am.
  • Any Library books (or other items) collected will be removed from loan and returned to the shelves.
  • If you see items left unattended for long periods, which are preventing access to study spaces, please text us the details on 07919 293133.

Removed property, with the exception of University cards, will be kept in the Library for one week before being sent to the central University lost property store controlled by Security staff. University cards will be sent straight to the Information Centre.

This was introduced in response to student concerns and we welcome any feedback you may have.
