Cancer

We bring together scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, and external partners across disciplines to advance the understanding of cancer across scales, from single molecules to whole populations. We aim to translate our discoveries to new therapeutic strategies that are both effective and precise.

We focus on three key areas:

  • Blood cancers (Centre for Blood Research): We study mechanisms driving blood cancer development, haematopoietic stem cell biology, and the interaction of leukaemic cells with their niche.
  • Solid cancers (Jack Birch Cancer Research Unit): We explore the microenvironment of solid cancers, including breast, bladder, colorectal, ovarian, and kidney cancer.
  • Cancer immunology (Centre for Blood Research and Jack Birch Cancer Research Unit): We investigate the interactions between cancer and immune cells to increase tumour immunogenicity and reduce adverse effects of cancer immunotherapies.
